Professional Experience

National Geographic - Washington, DC
Sr. Producer, Video - March 2016 - Present

In my current roll as Sr. Producer, Video on the digital editorial team, I have collaborated with writers, text and photo editors as well as fellow video producers to shape editorial content for both the National Geographic digital articles featured on the website as well as short form content to support those featured stories on social platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. I’ve excelled at forging relationships with established National Geographic photographers in addition to cultivating new relationships with up and coming wildlife photographers and filmmakers. These relationships have allowed me to craft compelling visuals that complement Nat Geo’s core storytelling initiatives while opening up new avenues for audience engagement.

My approach to production is rooted in strong collaboration and clear creative direction:

  • Editorial & Visual Strategy: Align internal production services and external partners on project goals, tone, and visual standards. I guide projects from pre-production scripts and rough draft video concepts through final edit sign-off.

  • Talent & Network Development: Over the last few years I have cultivated, and managed relationships with new and existing photographers, writers, scientists and researchers who are experts in their field. I have also collaborated with Nat Geo staff to create on camera hosted productions.

  • Data-Driven Creativity: Being a part of the video team, we closely monitor video performance metrics and evolving consumer consumption habits, using insights to optimize our video content strategy, drive loyalty, and capture new audiences across owned sites and social platforms.

With a personal passion for wildlife, science, exploration and social issues, combined with a strong understanding of hands-on pre-production and post-production workflows with editing tools like Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve, I am eager to help define the gold standard of video journalism. I bring an entrepreneurial mindset, a rigorous attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing hours (terabytes at times) of footage from various wildlife photographers and filmmakers to provide horizontal embed video support to featured digital articles.

  • Producing a repeatable format series which requires researching a topic, writing a script and overseeing a video editor to produce a short form video for various social platforms.

  • Producing and editing cinematic short form videos for various social platforms by cultivating relationships with several photographers to license a variety of videos from both existing catalogs as well as working ahead of time to request and provide guidance as to what footage would best fit our standards.

  • Writing, producing and editing behind the scenes digital editorial articles as a companion piece to featured digital articles. This provides the necessary context to what it’s like for a photographer in the field while also complementing the featured story and captivating the audience in a new way.

  • Reaching out to scientists and researchers to license footage to help visually enhance an article. This would also require providing the appropriate paid or free licensing agreement and submitting a budget for payment when necessary.

  • In house productions - Assisting fellow producers on in house video productions for interviews and repeatable format series.

  • Work with third party vendors to provide video and audio support.
